On Friday January 25th, the Middle School Girls' Basketball B-team traveled to the Winsor school. As always, we played an outstanding defensive game, with Noemie taking responsibility for covering the stronger player, #1. In offense, however, playing in such a large, state-of-the-art gym was disorienting for our players. Further, not having Sabina to rely upon for scoring points was an additional challenge. After only shooting five times (and scoring 2 points) in the first half, our goal for the second half was to shoot more. We almost tripled our number of shots and scored 4 additional points, and we did an even better job of moving the ball, screening, and getting away from defenders. Our centers, Karina and Melanie, did an outstanding job at standing tall, crossing through the key and asking for the ball. Rose was able to elude her defender and receive the ball at the base of the key in several occasions. Power forward Elise was instrumental in creating several counter attacks, either by dribbling the ball all the way down the court or by running ahead and receiving long passes. The final score was 20 to 8 (loss), with Noemie, Elise, and Rose each scoring 2 points. Next game is a double header A-team and B-team against Beaver Country Day school (A and B respectively) on Tuesday, January 29th.
